Linda’s Ladies DC 2012
The Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure is a 60-mile walk for women and men who want to make a personal difference in the fight to end breast cancer. Participants commit to raise at least $2,300 and spend several months training to prepare for the event.
In November of 2011 I started my 3-day journey by signing up to walk the 2012 Washington DC 3-day. Over the course of the next year I raised over $5,000, walked uncountable miles, bought two new pairs of shoes and was joined by 5 amazing women. Together we made up Linda’s Ladies.
By the end of our 3-Day weekend, Linda’s Ladies had raised $19,500. We had also gained multiple blisters and some aches and pains, but we walked across the finish line arm and arm and celebrated our amazing accomplishment.
But my journey can’t stop there because the fight is not over, my job is not done. On January 1, 2013 my great Aunt lost her battle to breast cancer. This battle is too close to home. It has knocked on my front door too many times. That is why I am once again asking for your support as I put one foot in front of the other in hopes that one day we will realize a cure for this awful disease.

Say it with me. FUCK CANCER! Yesterday morning I got an email from a fellow Susan G. Komen 3-day walker passing on the sad news that a fellow warrior in pink, Bridget Spence, lost her battle. She was 29. TWENTY NINE. Fuck Cancer. A woman on my Clickin Mom’s board posted that she was just diagnosed with breast cancer and is going in for a double mastectomy. She’s 30. And has a two year old. Fuck Cancer. A sorority sister posted on Facebook this morning that her principal lost her battle to cancer. She had young kids. Fuck Cancer. I … Read more
Today marks the official start to my 2013 Susan G. Komen 3-day journey. I started my 3-day journey in memory of my mom – I continue it for my kids – so that they never have to walk in memory of someone they love. There is a long road ahead of me. (Re)training to walk 60 miles in 3 days and raising a minimum of $2300 are daunting goals but ones that I know I can tackle. Last year I was incredibly blessed to be walking with a fabulous group of women and together we smashed our fundraising goal. In … Read more
When I look back on 2012 my proudest moment came on October 16 when I linked arms with 5 of my girlfriends and crossed the finish line of the Susan G. Komen DC 3-Day. The 60 miles we traveled over those three days was only part of our accomplishment. The real accomplishment was personally raising $5000 and as a team raising $19000 that would go to real advancements in the fight against breast cancer and hopefully, one day soon, a cure. I decided to take some time off after the 3-Day. Having spent many of my weekend days away from … Read more
After spending the better part of the last year planning and fundraising for the DC 3-Day and all of my free time the last couple of months training I’ve been enjoying a little bit of down time. I’ve enjoyed some weekend morning snuggle sessions with the boys and leisurely breakfasts with the family. I’ve stayed in my PJs way later than I should! But I’m also feeling a bit at loose ends. I have a lot of found time that I didn’t have a few weeks ago and I don’t want to loose the motivation for physical activity I have … Read more
I did it! WE did it! Last weekend was the 3-day. I feel like I have been preparing for this FOREVER. And now that it is over I’ve been trying to wrap my mind around the emotions of the weekend. First I want to say a big, huge THANK YOU to every body who supported me and the rest of Linda’s Ladies with your donations, your love, and your cheers. We could not have done it without you. And because of you Linda’s Ladies raised $19,500. $19,500! We were so proud to be able to contribute to the $3.8 million … Read more
