Seeking Silence

It’s been a busy few months.  Not just busy in terms of schedules and things to do but busy inside my head.  This happens from time to time.  Things in my mind race around at great speed.  New ideas.  To do lists.  Big dreams.  Worries.  Small wonders.   All flying around, bumping up against each other and then moving off in different directions.  It’s hard to keep up. At the end of the day I pass out exhausted.  Not from the physical demands of life but from the mental marathon I’ve been running all day.  I’m not always like this.  There … Read more

Don't Stand in your Sunshine

[mantra-pullquote align=”left|center|right” textalign=”left|center|right” width=”33%”]Most of the shadows of this life are caused by standing in one’s own sunshine. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson[/mantra-pullquote] I heard this quote this morning and it got me thinking.  How many times do I criticize myself for falling short or not doing something just so.  Or being too this or too little that.  How often do I stand in my own sunshine.  Looking through my posts I’m struck by how many times I harp on my short comings and focus on where improvement is needed. In fact, reading through many of the blogs I love, I’ve noticed … Read more

If you Weren't Afraid . . .

This question showed up in my Facebook feed this morning: “If you weren’t afraid what would you do?” My first thought was “skydive.”  If I wasn’t afraid of heights and planes and well dying, I would definitely skydive.  How amazing would that be?  To see the World from that vantage point and soar through the sky.  Awesome right? After my first reaction I started thinking about all of the things I “want” to do that I don’t because I’m scared.  Scared of failing, scared of looking silly, scared of what others think, scared of the unknown. If I wasn’t afraid … Read more

New Years Resolution

Hi.  Remember me? I spent the last couple of weeks enjoying Christmas and New Years with the family.  It was wonderful and crazy and definitely worthy of it’s own post and picture share (coming soon!)  But now I’m ready to kick off the New Year and get back into the swing of normal life. I love the New Year.  I love new things.  I was that kid who loved the first day of school because she had a fresh, new, unwritten-in notebook.  That notebook presented so much promise and opportunity.  I am the same way about my paper planner. (Yes … Read more

This Little Light

[mantra-pullquote align=”left|center|right” textalign=”left|center|right” width=”33%”]Darkness can not drive out darkness; only light can do that.  Hate can not drive out hate; only love can do that. –Martin Luther King Jr.[/mantra-pullquote] The World shifted for me a little bit yesterday.  I did not think I would ever again see darkness like I saw on 9/11 in my lifetime.  But what happened in Newtown CT yesterday was darker.  The targeting and deliberate killing of children is beyond something I can even begin to try to wrap my head around.  Little lights that will never have the chance to shine. I, like so many … Read more
