It was a Merry Little Christmas

Christmas 2012 was good to us.  We celebrated Christmas Eve with good friends and family and our traditional Italian dinner.  We ended the night snuggled in Christmas Jammies reading the Night Before Christmas, left Santa some cookies and milk and said goodbye to our elf, Gulliver. Christmas day was spent with my dad and brother and two little boys who were spoiled by everyone, including Santa. When the house was empty again Sam declared “I’m sad!”  Looks like the post Christmas blues can strike a three year old too! We were able to spend a few days in Indiana where … Read more

Snapshots

“A good snapshot keeps a moment from running away.”  –Eudora Welty It seems like the days just keep passing by.  I can’t believe that Sam is three and Will has become a little boy in the blink of an eye.  They are quickly leaving behind all traces of their babyhood.  It’s bittersweet.  This phase is full of wonder and excitement.   They both can genuinely return love with hugs, kisses and I love yous.  In many ways parenting these little people now is more rewarding than when they were little babes (more challenging too).  Everyday I am excited to see what new thing … Read more

Happy Birthday Monkey Love

This is not how I wanted to celebrate  Sam’s third birthday I had hoped to wake him with hugs and kisses and a special birthday breakfast.  Bring him a balloon when I picked him up from daycare.  And put a candle in a cupcake.  But this nasty little virus had other plans for today.  My poor little man is celebrating his birthday while sleeping off a fever on the family room floor.  Dear Sam, Can I just say – three years. Three. Three.  THREE! How? I cannot believe that you, my baby, turned three today.  It feels like just yesterday … Read more

All I want for Christmas is Sleep!

I love Will.  I love him. I love him. I love him. But I don’t always have to like him! I don’t think we have gotten anymore than two nights of sleep in a row since the day this child was born.  This kid wakes up at least 3 nights out of every week.  And I’m not talking about the kind of wake up where you run into his room, pat his back, give him a drink of water and whisper words of comfort then tip toe back into your warm bed and go back to sleep.  No, I’m talking … Read more

A Fresh Start

What matters is to live in the present, live now, for every moment is now.                                                      –Sai Baba Welcome to my new home. When I started One Step at a Time about a year ago I planned to journal my preparation and participation in the 3-Day.  It became a place for me to talk about the loss of my mom and finding my way as a motherless mama. The 3-Day and the blog helped me … Read more
